I've been keeping two blogs for the past couple years, this one and a more private family blog that I started while I was pregnant with Jude. I have now decided to merge the two and combine into one super blog of sorts over at Wordpress (no offence Blogger, but Wordpress OWNS). Rainy Day Rewind: Jude's Beatles Birthday Party

Aside makeup, nail polish, fashion, Hello Kitty, home decor, thrift store shopping and anything with bows, I have a newly found passion for cute parties. This came about when it was time to start planning our son, Jude's 1st Birthday party. I think I drove my husband nuts talking about it for approximately 3 months. After about 45 days of listening to me ramble, he started joining in the fun too and actually helped me come up with some great ideas for the party. I was pleasantly surprised when Jude's party was featured on OhdeedOh, one of my favorite blogs!

"My husband Michael & I had a hard time thinking of a theme for Jude's 1st birthday. We knew we wanted to do something a little different, but something that still represented Jude well. Since music and dancing is Jude's favorite pastime, we thought, why not! I mean, people often start singing The Beatles to us the instant they hear Jude's name. Michael is the head chef at an amazing Irish pub in Roseville, Ca called The Boxing Donkey and we were lucky enough to use the restaurant side to host Jude's big bash. It made for a fun atmosphere, the vibe of the party fit well with the location. The turntable cake was by Melyssa Tucey from The Boxing Donkey. Almost everything you see pictured I made by hand myself. It was very cost effective this way and much more personal to me than going on Etsy and paying someone else to do it for me. Since Jude's party was in October, I wanted to choose colors that would be easily accessible which made the tableware and decorations a lot more affordable. I made The Beatles cover album party hats by buying a pack of cheap party hats, taking one apart and tracing it to make a template, printed the album covers from our home printer and assembled from there. The "Jude" banner on our food table was made from actual "Hey Jude" sheet music. All the photos from the party were done by Jason Pryor. They can be viewed here."

Since my Urban Decay Naked Palette arrived a few weeks ago, I have been addicted. I haven't used any other shadows since. Its been so fitting to my current (pregnancy induced) mood of love for simplicity. Also, I'm obsessed with simple shadow and bright coral lips. There is something about apricot gloss that really does it for me. The weather here has been so Spring-like that I've felt the need to break out some warm vibes in February. This day I was wearing Virgin to highlight under my brows, Sin on my lower lid and Sidecar in the crease.

Why am I just discovering Z-palettes? This seriously solves so many of my traveling issues. Asprin Face Mask

"I’ve been concocting face masks at home from random things I find in the fridge for years. Throw a little oatmeal and honey together and voila, you have a sticky treat for your face that’s also good to eat. Moving forward from such edible delights into more practical at home mixes happened a few years ago when my skin actually started requiring more maintenance than a splash a water here and there.

And this is where the aspirin face mask comes in. Never heard of this? It’s easy to make and leaves your skin looking surprisingly cheery and smooth. Why? Because the aspirin acts as an anti-inflammatory, calming whatever it is that ails you. Also important to note is that aspirin contains acetyl-salicylic acid, which is widely used in cosmetics because it removes dead skin cells without clogging pores (e-How.com told me that little fun fact).

Here’s what to do…

Take 5 aspirin and crush them up
Add a few drops of water until it turns into a paste
Apply to your face but make sure to avoid your eyes
Remove after the paste is dry and falling off your skin

Review: Stila Long Wear Liquid Lip Color

I was so excited when my generous Sister-in-law got me Stila's Long Wear Liquid Lip Color {in Fiery} for Christmas! I had heard great reviews about the staying power of this product, and being that I love to wear red lips a lot, it seemed like the perfect gift! I have to say I am HOOKED! I want every shade (Coral is on the top of my list)! This is a perfect product for someone who hates to touch up, because it really does last SO much longer than ordinary lipstick. To keep red lips in place, I always put concealer on my lips and line them first to keep the color where it is supposed to me. Because this product stains instantly, I highly recommend using a lip brush instead of the applicator! Also, exfoliating your lips before applying any lip product always helps to keep lips looking amazing.

Yesterday I received Allure's February 2011 issue with Jennifer Aniston on the cover. Typically, I read fashion magazines backwards because the most important parts to me (fashion & beauty) are in the last few pages. Ask Fancy: Palettes Worth the Price?

Hi Fancy,
I just purchased Lorac's Starry Eyed Baked Eye Shadow (in Evening Star) and I'm really happy with it, but I have to wonder if I'm wasting money buying three shadows when I really only used two and the third for nights out. It seems almost all companies are selling shadows in three, four and five shade packs, but is it really worth the money to buy them as a group? Thanks! -Ashley, PA

Hey-Girl-Heeeeey,
First off, thank you for your question! I honestly wish I could fist-bump and homie-hug every single one of my readers. So, if we are speaking strictly to value, this palette comes with 3 shadows equaling .15oz for $25.00 and LORAC's individual shadows are .06oz and cost $18. So to purchase these three shadows individually (you would lose .3oz of product) you would spend $54 instead of $25, so I would say the value is worth it. However, I understand your point, that it always seems like there is at least one or two shadows that get neglected in a palette, which can add up to wasted money in the long run. Personally, I like to buy palettes because I go through more makeup (because of personal and client use) than the average person.

My recommendations:
1. Keep your receipt. If you realize the purchase was a mistake, return it.
2. Use darker shadows in place of pencil liner (apply with sharp angled brush) for a more natural day look. This way you don't have to wait for a night out to get some more out of these shadows.

3. Go through your shadows at home before going shopping and determine what is missing or "needed".

I just bought (thanks to an awesome friend who got me a Sephora gift card for Christmas!) Urban Decay's Naked Palette which I ADORE because it has such a variety of color for both day and night.

Definitely one of my favorite palettes of all time. Urban Decay's pigmentation and quality always deliver in every product of theirs that I've purchased. It's palettes like this that make my heart flutter.

I honestly felt like a different woman within 15 seconds of putting these products on my skin. Although, as a girlfriend and I discussed, the smell does leave something to be desired.

Eyes: Benefit's Stay Don't Stray Primer, M.A.C Mineralize Eye Shadow Palette in Word-of-Mouth, LORAC shadow in Serenity (in crease), Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On eyeliner in Zero , Tarte Cosmetics Toolbox for Brows in Medium and Maybelline's The Falsies Volume Express mascara in Blackest Black. Oh ladies, am I happier than Snooki with a tan that I tried this mascara!! I have tried over 20 different mascaras this past year and I think Falsies has to be in the top ranks. I truly recommend it! My only word of advice would be to go for the "Washable" version because the waterproof takes FOREVER to remove, even after using cold cream and makeup remover.

Recently I had been helping a friend looking for an everyday lipstick. She was like most of my clients, very afraid of picking the wrong one. I can understand, if you are not used to wearing lipstick, the task can seem quite daunting. So I recommended one of my all time favorites, M.A.C's "Angel". The thing I love about this color is its simple, soft, pretty, looks good on everyone and goes with almost any eyeshadow color. For the record, she ended up buying it and loves it :)

Beauty doesn't always have to break the bank! I was cruising the aisles of Target (yes, I am a Target stalker) the other day when I walked by the Wet 'N Wild section in the beauty department. I started looking at some of their lipsticks (which are only .94 cents) when I pondered whether or not they were a total bust. In high school, the first red-red lipstick I ever wore was from Wet 'N Wild (Hot Red) and I was obsessed with it, in fact I still have a tube of it that I wear when I'm feeling nostalgic. So I decided to try another shade just for fun. I ended up with Sunset Peach 516C. Matte coral lipstick is much more in season this fall but a little bit of shimmer never hurt me. Especially with clear gloss over top.

So for all the lipstick scaredy-cats out there: just give it a TRY. What is there to lose? A dollar.

You will recover, I swear.

What is everyone up to for Halloween this year? I'm throwing a party with my bestie on Saturday night and Sunday (Halloween) we are taking Jude trick-or-treating at a local shopping center. About a month ago I made a trip to Sephora (not to be confused with the holy land) to pick up a few things for a client when I couldn't stop myself from buying Urban Decay's Show Pony Shadow Box ($30).

The palette contains:

- Snatch Eyeshadow (peachy-pink with glitter)
- Painkiller Eyeshadow (turquoise shimmer)
- Mildew Eyeshadow (deep green)
- Flash Eyeshadow (electric purple)
- Smog Eyeshadow (deep bronze)
- Toasted Eyeshadow (copper)
- 24/7 Eye Pencil: Zero (black)
- Eyeshadow Primer Potion.

I've always really liked Urban Decay's eye shadows so I knew I would be pleased with the colors and pigmentation. I like that it contains really pretty golden tones which can be worn easily for day but also has a few crazier amped up shades which are fun for going out or just spicing up life.

The shade I have used the least is definitely "Snatch" (top left) due to the fact it has bigger specs of glitter in it and I haven't been a fan of glitter since 2001. No offense glitter. And while I really do like Urban's eyeshadow primers, I gotta say that I think that Benefit's Stay Don't Stray is still better (in my humble opinion). One of my favorite day combinations has been pairing "Flash"(top right) with "Toasted" (bottom right). Although, I did have a fun time mixing "Painkiller" (bottom left) and "Flash" (top right) for a night out. Here are a few shots. Don't mind my un-did hair, okay?

All-in-all even after a month, I am still in love with this palette, I highly recommend it. I also highly recommend listening to this song during the application process:

Um, ya did I mention it costs THREE DOLLARS. While the shades may not be identical and the quality will not be as rich, they are pretty dang close and for $3 isn't it worth a shot? But seriously. You have it absolutely right to go for the polar opposite of Mimi, because when it comes to beautiful blonde-shells like yourself, less is more. Summer, Winter, Spring or Fall you don't want to take away from your soft & feminine beauty. We want to slightly enhance your natural allure but not distract from it. There are a wide range of colors that will work well for you.

For an everyday non-makeup-makeup-look stick to ivory, kaki, taupe, gold, soft pink & light brown shades of shadow. Stay away from too much liquid liner (& liner in general). Try a little dark brown liner in your water & lash line and smudge it a bit with an angle brush to give it a more natural flow. I would also recommend trying a dark brown mascara instead of black for day. I love Benefit's Bad Gal Brown mascara.

Stila's "It Girl" palette would be a great addition to your makeup wardrobe if you don't have many basic day shadows. Its on clearance for $10 (Hollah!)

Smashbox has a perfect "basic" quad on clearance right now at Sephora ($6!!) that is perfect for day looks.

Now Dahhhling, lets talk evening. There is a wide variety of ways you can this basic look to the next level for an evening out. Since you've said your eyes are blue/green my first instinct would be a fun and bold silver and violet smokey eye. It will really bring out the color in your eyes and compliment your skin tone. I recommend going for a soft nude lip and bronzed cheek to compliment the look and make your eyes stand out.You can be a lot more liberal with black eyeliner and mascara to give your eyes a more structured look. I adore this 5 Colour Design palette by Dior.

A great quick, classic and easy but sexy look on blondes is
a simple eye (ivory or gold shadow & liner) and bold lip.

Stila's Paint Your Pout Red palette has everything you need to accomplish a variety of bold lips.

Wordless (Well, kinda) Weekend Wrap-up

I got one of the best surprises of my life this past Thursday.

One of my dear friends Kelly was getting married in Seattle & I simply couldn't afford the ticket. I was bummed because Kelly has asked me to do her makeup AND my two besties were able to go, so I was even more sad at the thought of missing such a major life event for our little family of friends. Well, my friend April hears about how I can't afford to go from a friend and offers to pay for my ticket so I can go. Usually, I am not one who can accept a gift of that magnitude (due to a massive amount of pride when it comes to being able to "provide" for myself) but after talking with my husband and thinking about what a sweet and generous gift was being given, I accepted....under the condition that April lets me do her makeup for her wedding, funeral, bat mitzvah, quinceanera, etc.

The weekend was amazing, I was so thrilled & giddy like a 5 year old. I literally danced to "I'm so excited" in my kitchen.

I haven't really been wearing makeup this past year or so, and so I totally need to re-build my stash. I don't have much money to spend though, so is there any way you could put together some sort of "starter kit" for me? Pretty pretty please?I don't wear foundation at all, and mostly just focus on my eyes, so really, I guess what I would need is a good mascara, a few eye shadows, and a couple of shades of lipstick?"

I know too well about coming out of the newborn-baby-coma you speak of. Us Mamas' spend so much of our time thinking about our precious little ones, we can get a little lost in the process. I'm more than happy to help you pick out some new confidence boosting goodies to help get you back in the zone!
Let's do the damn thang.

Face: Since you are a no-fuss makeup gal, I would highly recommend using a tinted moisturizer (with SPF a 'course) in place of a daily foundation. You only need about a dime size of this product each day, therefore a tube should last you about 5-6 months. I love Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizers (also available in an oil free formula if you are combination/oily) I know- the price point is higher- BUT when taking into account how well it works and how long it will last (if using the correct amount with a foundation brush) it isn't as terrible as it seems. However, if the price point is too much (completely understandable)
Sephora also makes a great tinted moisturizer for about half the cost.

Eyeshadows: I know that you are medium complected with beautiful green eyes, so I am going to encourage you to play a bit because you have a lot of range when it comes to what colors you can pull off well. In terms of the office I think: simple, pretty & easy. A great place to re-build your makeup wardrobe is to purchase a pallet (or two). This is generally the most cost effective way to be able to achieve variety and the colors are already paired for you so it takes away that "Does this go with that?!" anxiety.

Smashbox has an amazing natural eyeshadow quad on sale at Sephora for $6!!!

With his pallet you have the ability to line, highlight & contour your eyes in a very natural but still sultry way. I love to use dark shadow in place of liner, especially for everyday looks. Do you have a thin angle brush? If not e.l.f is great for inexpensive but get-the-job-done brushes.

Now once you have a few natural/nude shadows then I would reccomend branching out and also getting something like this beautiful "Vegan" palette from Urban Decay.

I like this for you because while it still has some beautiful rich earth tones that are great for everyday, there is also some fun here for experimenting and branching out. As a bonus it comes with a travel size version of Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion (in Sin) which I LOVE and a mini eyeliner for travel which is great for a hot Milf on-the-go such as yourself.

Mascara: I'm not sure what you are using now but for the most part mascara is a matter of opinion/preference. It's hard to pinpoint something for everyone because a lot of us ladies look for different things (drama, simple, curling, soft, etc). I do know you are looking for simple, effective & affordable. In my humble opinion you can't get a better low price point mascara like Clinique's High Impact Mascara ($14 USD). It works, it lasts & its cheap...and if you time it right they might be in gift and you can get some free crap. I'm not usually a huge fan of Clinique but in the case of this product, I'm down with those god awful lab coats.

Lips: Things I look for in a good lip: moisture and wear-ability. When I was working in an office, I liked to use lip stains and put gloss or chap stick over the top. The reason I prefer lip stains is because they last, really last, all day and you can't feel(or taste-vom) them like I've experience with "long wear lipsticks".

Sephora Collection makes some great lip-stain/gloss duos that are also on sale actually for $7 USD. I think Coral/Gold would be beautiful on you. Additionally, Cover Girl has a great line of lip stain sticks around the same price point. Nude Kiss & Flirty Nude are great everyday shades!!

This one goes out to my homegirls @the818 & @K_Rose22 aka (in the non-Twitter world) Morgan & Kathleen. So here it is as promised, a step-by-step guide to a golden smokey eye.

First things first: Groom/fill brows. Personally, I always fill my brows with wax and powder. I am currently using:

Tarte the toolbox: brow know-how Brow Set, Dark

-Cover entire eye area (from lid to under brow) with eyeshadow primer. I used Benefit's Stay Don't Stray.

-Apply black or dark brown eyeliner in upper & lower water line as well as along the lash line. I LOVE Benefit's Get Bent Brush to apply liner with. It makes life so easy. I simply swipe the brush tip on the end on my Prestige Professional Eyeliner (black) then apply as I would with a pencil.

*Note: I got a few inquiries as to why I am putting on liner BEFORE shadow. For natural looks, I put liner before and smudge shadow into the liner to make it look less lined. When doing a more "going out look" I apply it after.

-Jude throws shoe at the back of Mommy's head. Continue.

Yes, that black brush hair on my forehead is really happening.

-Next, I generously applied M.A.C's Cocomotion pigment focusing on the crease area (see below) of my eyes. I use Stila's #2 shadow brush.

-Now I load up my whole lower lid with LORAC's Serenity Eyeshadow (think shimmery pinky/bronze). You could also use a shimmery white or pink shadow.

-Jude has something on his face. Wait, what is that? Insert scene of me finding A DEAD M.F.ING FLY stuck to the side of Jude's cheek. Yes, it had been in his mouth.

-Vomit. Continue.

-Of course, we gotta highlight under our brows, so I generously swept an apparently nameless white matte shadow by Maybelline from the inner corner of my eye to the end of my brow.

-Can you tell I'm still upset about the fly? Good.

-So we are done with eyeshadow for our "day" look. Next, concealer. I apply Benefit's Erase Paste with my favorite concealer brush by Stila.

-Time to apply a fair amount of mascara. Today I used Benefit's BadGal Brown mascara. I like this mascara (especially for summer) for two reasons: 1. It does not come off. Like, good luck taking it off without professional remover or cold cream. 2. I like deep brown for summer when I wear less makeup.

*Note: I always crimp my lashes before applying eyeliner. Today I used an eyelash curler by Lancome, although I usually use
Shu Uemura 24k Gold eyelash curler

-Before putting on bronzer I apply

Guerlain's Meteorites Powder for Face, which I ADORE.

-I use this fan brush by e.l.f (Only $3!!!I used to use an expensive one from Benefit but then it died and I bought this one to hold me over until I could afford a new one and have yet to find a reason to need to replace it.) to apply bronzer. To contour my face, I make the "fishy face" and brush the bonzer into the hollows of my cheeks. Then I swipe the brush lightly across the bridge of my nose, top of my forehead and bottom of my chin.

-Ya, I just got out of the shower so my hair isn't done.

-Lips: we are gonna take it way back to the old days of 1995. I promise we are going somewhere with this.

1. Cover lips with concealer. I use M.A.C's Studio Finish Concealer.

2. Outline your lips chola style with a nude lip pencil. I am using one by Model & Co.

Sexy, right?

-Now I take my index finger and blend the concealer & liner together.

-Then my son throws a tantrum because its nap time.

-Lastly I apply a golden peachy gloss, Sephora's Desert Gold.

Ta-Dahhhh!

-Okay, now what if we want to jazz this simple look up for gettin' yo freak on aka going into evening? No problem. Just simply dip your angle brush into some dark brown, copper or black and smudge it into your top & bottom lash line, like so:

Apparently I suck at applying makeup, taking a picture and singing Bootylicious to Jude all at once.

So basically adding the smokey brown amps your sex appeal as seen below. Listening to Bootylicious has the same effect ( X 'jillion).

Since this look is so "safe" you can easily add a bold, fun lip for day or evening. Y'all know how I love me some red lips so I choose M.A.C's Ladybug to wear today.

Liquid Legs

After having my son Jude I grew accustomed to wearing leggings under just about every dress I own (it was winter, ok?). Then...it wasn't winter anymore and as temperatures were on the rise, my self confidence was at an all time low. I had a wedding to attend, been working out and had a fabulous dress to wear but still faced one giant problem: the fear of showing my legs without hose or tights!

Pasty doesn't even do justice to this "situation".

A friend of mine gave me DermaBlend's Leg & Body Cover cream. So I prayed it would do some magic.

Well after applying it, making sure I had blended it perfectly and waited about 5 minutes for it to dry, I walked into the bathroom to inspect the outcome. I was in shock quite honestly. Okay, I know that sounds drastic but in all seriousness people, this stuff works AMAZING. It is waterproof and has SPF15 so you don't have to worry about it getting all over your clothes or applying SPF underneath. I did have a few tiny smudges by the end of the night BUT I was also wearing mostly white and I have a tendency to dance like Lady Gaga when around a comped bar.

To anyone who is self conscious about stretchmarks or scarring on your legs, arms, what-have-yous, I highly recommend this product. LOVE.

So, where to being. Well, if you know me, you know that I have been growing my hair out for about...5ish years. I haven't cut/trimmed my hair in at least 3 years. Kinda gross actually. So, I have been planning to go in to a salon and have some of it cut off because quite frankly, I was one prairie dress away from a guest spot on Big Love.

I have always admired people who donate their hair to Locks of Love and last night I went on the website to see what the requirements were for a donation. The minimum donation is 10 inches so I figured, since my hair was practically to my ass crack- my hair would still be long. Sometimes I tend to be...compulsive. I asked Michael to measure the appropriate amount, mark it with a pony tail holder (as instructed on their website) and asked him to go ahead and just cut it. I mean, how hard is it to cut a straight line, right?

Wrong. Now, god love my husband but for some reason he started cutting it and started laughing hysterically. Instead of pausing to continue laughing, he kept cutting.

He hands me the pony tail of hair- now half the top of the ponytail is cut right above the hair tie (as it was supposed to be) and the other half- well it was cut about FOURish inches shorter. I booked it to the bathroom mirror in horror. As I suspected, half on my hair was about 4 inches shorter than the other.

I know you may be thinking- what is the big effing deal. But when you have been growing your hair out for half a decade- you get a little attached. Should I have paid/waited for a professional to do it? Yes. Should I have asked my poor husband to cut my hair? No. But I couldn't think about any of that- all I could do was literally curl up in the fetal position and sob for a good half an hour. I completely threw a fit and Michael felt SO BAD. I was so mad at him for not taking it seriously and not taking his time, but I know in his heart or hearts he never intended to purposely mess up my hair.

Well I walk into the bathroom to blow my nose about 10 minutes later and my poor husband is CHOPPING OFF ALL OF HIS HAIR! (Oh, btw he has been growing his hair out for the past 1.5 years).

I screamed, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING???!!!!" and he said "I wanted you to know how bad I felt". Insert feeling like the worlds biggest douchebag here. How could I be mad after that? I couldn't & shouldn't.

Well, thankfully I was able to get an appointment today at The Studio (half tattoo parlor, half hair salon- very cute) in Roseville, CA. My hair is "fixed" and even though I have NO intention of keeping my hair this short, at least it is one length. My head feels so light. Some little girl & boy with cancer are going to get some amazing weaves thanks to mine & my husband's crazy asses.

I can't find a picture with my "full" length of my hair since about 6+ months ago, but picture my hair about 4-5 inches longer than it is here:

Not sure why I look drunk. Maybe that is the look of pretending to be happy, who knows.

Happy Friday! As previously mentioned in my post below, I am very excited to share the following (FIVE DOLLAR) eye pallet from e.l.f with you.

So there I was doing laps at Target (Target is so much cheaper than therapy) when I spy with my little eyes this gem:

Now, I haven't used many of e.l.f's shadows before because honestly, when I see a $5 price tag I kind of expect the quality to be one step above rubbing baby powder on my eyelids. Yet, I have used some of their face wipes & brushes before and been surprisingly impressed. I also have watched a few of their tutorials online & seen a few of their products featured on other blogs I stalk, so I figured- what the hell. What's five bucks, right? (Ignores side-eye from husband) There were four different "books" to choose from: Eye Brights (the one I bought), Neutral Eyes, Smoky Eyes & Lips.

Once arriving home I open the "book" to see an even more awesome little bonus, an instruction guide for Makeup Virgins on how to apply the shadows to achieve different looks. It even includes these adorable little diagrams.

So once I got over how cute this was I cracked open the shadows and started playing. The palette comes with 12 shadows, a small black eyeliner & travel eyeshadow applicator. Wait, the quality of these shadows kind of doesn't suck?...Which is surprising me because, like I said, for 5 bones- I don't expect much. I mean that is at least a 4th of what I normally pay PER SHADOW. There are a few shades that are a little too chalky (I'm not one for sparkles) for my liking but I am happy with about half of the colors/consistency.

All in all I think this is a good buy. Would I throw out my case and only wear e.l.f shadows? Oh heeeeelllllllll naw, BUT not bad when considering the price. I think these palettes are ideal for someone who is just starting to wear makeup (Neutral Eyes would be perfect for a younger girl wanting to start wearing makeup to school) or someone who wants to spice up their eyeshadow wardrobe but doesn't want to spend too much money until they know what works for them.

First off, thank you SO much for writing in. I really enjoy conversing with the people who take the time to visit this blog. It is very rare I find more pleasure insomething as much as talking/working with makeup virgins.

Makeup virgins who can't drive!

Sorry I get easily distracted.

To first address the issue of covering acne scaring, I have a few suggestions for you:

1. Find a good exfoliating face wash to use 1-2 times a week. This will help lessen the scaring over time.
I lOVE Lancome's Pure Focus Exfoliator .

2. PLEASE use SPF on a daily basis if you are not already. It only makes scarring worse. Right now, I am using Biotherm's Sun Sensitive SPF .

3. Okay, now in terms of coverage, thank heavens for DERMABLEND's Smooth Indulgence Foundation! This stuff will cover anything. I myself also have scaring from acne (and years of not wearing sunscreen in high school) and I get compliments on my skin almost every time I wear this foundation.I always reccomend foundation be applied with a Foundation Brush.

Now, in terms of spicing up your makeup love life- know that you are not alone. The #1 thing I hear from women is “I have no idea what I am doing HELP!” So, here are a few suggestions to start:

1. PLAY. Have fun. Mess around with some inexpensive shadows until you get the hang of it. Maybe even before you shower at night, so you don’t have to worry about making “mistakes”. e.l.f has some amazing shadows & brushes for CHEAP. The quality is very high for the cost of their items. I will actually be reviewing one of their new palettes this week (that only costs FIVE BUCKS) so stay tuned!

2. Tutorials. Also every cosmetic brand has awesome tutorials available on their websites, You Tube or Facebook. M.A.C, e.l.f & Sephora have some really amazing ones. At Sephora you will find lots of brands now produce "Makeup Tutorial" pallets that come with the shadow, brushes & instructions on how to create a specific look! Check them out here.

3. Hire backup. Make an appointment during the week (when it is not busy) to sit down with a makeup artist at your favorite counter (I personally think Benefit does an amazing job with customer service). The weekends can get crazy busy and there just isn’t enough time for MUA to really give an antiquate lesson. Now, just because someone is standing behind a makeup counter does NOT mean they necessarily have a clue in the world. It could be their first day for all you know. So, what I would do is ask around to your girlfriends about who they have seen or ask to book your appointment with a counter manager. Will they expect you to buy? Yes. The common minimum purchase is 3 items or $50 for an hour long appointment. BUT you will walk away with hopefully 3 products you love and will feel confident using.

Now, I expect a report back once you feel your makeup cherry has been popped. Spare no details, I'm nosy ;)

I remember being just a wee lad at the cosmetic counter (still trying to act tough as to not get eaten alive by the other girls) and the conversation of mascara arose.

"Which do you use?" the giant red-headed psycho from Shiseido asked me.

"Ummm...Benefit BADgal" I mumbled.
As I began looking up from the ground, there stood 5 cosmetic girls shaking their heads displeased with me.

"No." the ginger spouted. "No."

"Which do you guys use?" I whimpered as I started picking at my split ends.

"DiorShow" they all said in unison. As if it was a no-brainer. As if to say, WHATTHEHELLISWRONGWITHYOUEVERYONEUSESDIORSHOWYOUMORON.

Once everyone had gotten over the fact that I was an idiot (Eyeroll) I tip toed over to the Dior counter, removed my BADGal lash and applied DiorShow. The gates of heaven opened and I saw Jesus himself floating on a puffy pink cloud toward me. What's that he is carrying in his hands? is it a DiorShow mascara wand? Oh, praises!

Mmmkay not really but...you get the point. I'm kind of a #mascarawhore now, as it is my life goal to try every mascara on the planet, BUT if you want the creme de la creme baby, look no further. I hope this works wonders for you as I suspect it will, please let me know what you think.

Confessions of a Chef's Wife

So, as previously mentioned, my Husbie is a chef. Awesome, right? I often find it funny when we go to other peoples houses for parties or dinners and they frequently comment about how nervous they are to cook for my husband, Michael. For future notice people- let me give it to you straight- this man could care LESS if you cooked him Spam & Velveta. He will eat anything. He eats Taco Bell. He loves all food and does not discriminate.

However, I shouldn't be judging or telling anyone how to feel because I feel the same way. From the beginning of our relationship I have lacked culinary skills of any kind. I can make a few things: pasta, easy mac, things in the crock pot, things in the microwave, umm eggs.....and.....ya that is all. Which is honestly quite pathetic if you think about it. 99.9% of the time Michael cooks our meals at home, yes even after cooking on his feet all day. Why? Because even if I tried with every little muster in my soul, it still would turn out tasting like a frozen dinner that sat out for 6 hours, that then got dropped onto the floor, thrown away in the garbage and then was taken out and put onto a plate. When I ask him to make me a salad, it looks like this:

I can't go on like this forever. I have to learn, I have to force myself. So "Confessions of a Chef's Wife" is the portion of my blog where I will explore cooking: what, why & how the hell do you do it. Because my husband needs & deserves a break.

One of the first things I have learned how to make was a very simple "Yummy Chicken Casserole" from my lovely & talented friend Kristen. She has 3 kids, so I'm pretty sure if she can find time to make this, my lazy ass can too. Now let this recipe come with a warning: after making this dish for the first time you may feel the urge to eat so much you have to put maternity pants on and lay on the bed afterward holding your stomach yelling "WHHHYYYYY did I have thirds??!!". You think I'm kidding? I don't kid. Okay I do but not about this. Yummy Chicken Casserole is some serious shit, man.

5-6 (depending on size) boneless chicken breasts cut up into chunks (uncooked)

1 can cream of mushroom soup

1 can cream of celery

1 can cream of chicken

1/2 C milk

Mix all ingredients together and put in a 9X13 pan.

Mix together 2 packages of chicken flavored stovetop stuffing as directed on package (meaning mix in the butter, hot water, etc), but DO NOT COOK.

Cover top of mixture with stuffing and cover your baking dish with foil. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. Uncover and bake for an addl 15 minutes.

Cook one bag of egg noodles as directed and top noodles with casserole.

So I know this doesn't exactly fit into my diet plan these days but I have made it once since I started working out and I substituted Smart Balance for butter to cut the fat of this dish almost in HALF. I also use the 99% fat free cans of soup (with low sodium), low fat stuffing & skip the noodles and it is still SOOO good.

Hey, maybe one day I'll get crazy and cook things that don't require canned soup. I said maybe.

Good gravy ya'll. My world has been cray-zay busy the last few weeks. Working, babies, weddings, birthdays, parties, workouts, house-ing, etc. I know, hard life, right? Sidenote, I am very proud of myself because I have been working out 3-4 days a week since May and it is really been fun (fun??). I never thought I would say that about exercise but I am happy to. I have already shed over 20lbs! I wanted to share my workout mix this week with you. So enjoy! Also, I want to know what do YOU listen to when you workout?!
